Yes — the free plan is free forever with no time limit. Available on both Chrome and Firefox. You get unlimited spaces, folders, bookmarks, import/export, live clock, weather, dark/light themes, tags, privacy mode, broken link checker and more. No credit card required.

Free gives you all the core bookmark management features. Pro unlocks visual customization (50 gradient themes, video backgrounds, Unsplash photos, particles), productivity tools (AI categorize, heatmap, streak, weekly report), child lock with PIN, ambient sounds, dual timezone clock, unlimited incognito, export as Markdown and more.

Monthly = 3 devices, Yearly = 5 devices, Lifetime = 10 devices. One license works on both Chrome and Firefox — enter the same key in both browsers (counts toward your device limit). Reinstalling or reactivating on the same device never uses up an extra slot. You can manage or remove old devices anytime from Settings → About → Manage Devices. From the 2nd device onward, activating on a device your key hasn't used before will also email a 6-digit confirmation code to your license's address — enter it to finish activating; your very first activation is never gated this way, and it never happens again on a device that's already activated.

This is a security check that applies from the 2nd device onward on a key — your very first activation is never gated this way. A one-time code gets emailed to the address on file for your license, and you enter it to finish activating. It exists so that if your key ever ends up somewhere it shouldn't (shared publicly, screenshotted, etc.), a stranger can't activate it without access to that inbox. It's rate-limited to 5 code requests per key per 24 hours, so someone repeatedly trying your key can't spam your inbox or use up the day's limit. It doesn't stop someone you deliberately hand both the key and the code to — no software check can prevent that.

It's a full reset for your license, separate from "Deactivate License (this device)" (which only ever signs out the device you're using). "Deactivate ALL Devices" — found further down in Settings → About → Manage Devices, requiring you to type RESET to confirm — immediately deactivates every device currently on your key at once. The device you click it from signs itself out right away — Pro badge gone, cached key cleared, page reloads automatically. Other devices on the key aren't touched instantly since they're not the one you acted from; each of those will drop to Free on its own the next time it checks in with the license server, or immediately if you open Settings → About → Manage Devices on that device yourself. Useful if you suspect your key may have leaked, or you just want to clear out old/stale devices in one step instead of removing them one by one. Every device, including the one you clicked it from, will need to re-enter the key afterward, and from the 2nd device onward will need to verify with an emailed code again.

It can take a few hours to notice on its own — a background check on that device runs every 6 hours to confirm it's still registered to the license, and turns Pro off there if it isn't. To make it happen immediately instead of waiting, open Settings → About → Manage Devices on that device itself — it checks the moment it's opened and turns Pro off right away if it's no longer on the license.

Click "Forgot your PIN?" — available from Settings, and directly on the Child Lock and Space Lock screens themselves so you're never fully locked out even if Settings itself is behind the lock. It emails a one-time reset code to the address on file for your Pro license (the same email your license is registered with — BTM never asks you to retype it here), and entering that code clears Child Lock AND every locked space at once, so you don't need to reset each lock separately. Needs an activated Pro license on file, since Child Lock and Space Lock are both Pro features. Each code is single-use and expires after 15 minutes; if it doesn't arrive, check spam/junk first, then reach out via WhatsApp/Telegram support.

Immediately after payment via Razorpay, our system automatically generates a unique license key (BTM-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) and emails it to the address you entered. Open a new tab in Chrome or Firefox → click the 🔒 Free badge → enter your key → Activate.

All your bookmarks, settings and preferences are stored locally in your browser's storage (Chrome or Firefox) on your device. Nothing is sent to any server. Your data never leaves your browser. Only license key validation communicates with our server (Supabase).

No more than any other new tab page — actually less than most. BTM is built in pure vanilla JavaScript with zero frameworks, and on both Chrome and Firefox it uses Manifest V3's event-driven background script, which unloads itself when idle instead of sitting in memory all the time like older extensions did. It only runs while a new tab is actually open, and it replaces the new tab you'd have open anyway rather than adding an extra one — so there's no background drain when you're not looking at it.

The default setup (bookmarks, folders, clock, weather) is lightweight. The only things that use noticeably more RAM/battery are optional Pro visual extras — video backgrounds, animated particles and auto-changing Unsplash photos — and only while a new tab is on screen. If you want the lightest possible footprint, stick with a solid color or gradient background and leave particles off; everything else in BTM has negligible impact.

Yes, with one quick one-time setup — this is a browser rule, not a BTM limitation: Chrome and Firefox never let any extension auto-replace the new tab page inside an Incognito/Private window, for every extension, not just this one. But BTM still works there once you flip one switch:

1. Chrome: go to chrome://extensions → Bookmark Tab Manager → Details → turn on "Allow in Incognito".
Firefox: go to about:addons → Bookmark Tab Manager → turn on "Run in Private Windows".
2. Open an Incognito/Private window, click the BTM toolbar icon, then click "Open New Tab" from the popup.

That opens BTM exactly like normal, fully private, with all your spaces and bookmarks — just via one click from the toolbar instead of automatically on every new tab.

No. BTM works alongside your browser's native bookmarks on both Chrome and Firefox. You can import your existing bookmarks into BTM with one click, but originals remain untouched. You can also export BTM bookmarks back to standard HTML format anytime.

Yes. Nest a folder inside another folder, up to 5 levels deep, using "Add sub-folder" or "Move into folder…" from any eligible folder's ⋮ menu, plus a Sub-folder Migration tool to split a large flat folder into sub-folders with a checkbox picker. Sub-folder nesting is Pro-exclusive at every level, including the first — free plans can't create a sub-folder and need to upgrade. If you built a nested structure while Pro was active, it's kept exactly as-is even if your Pro plan later lapses; you just can't create new sub-folders (or re-import a nested structure) until you renew. When you import a Chrome or Firefox bookmark HTML file, any nested folders you already have are automatically rebuilt as true BTM sub-folders (up to 5 levels) if you're Pro — on the Free plan, imported nesting is flattened to top-level folders instead. A parent with 4 or more sub-folders starts collapsed so the card doesn't get too tall — one click opens any of them, or hover a dragged bookmark over one to auto-expand and drop it in.

Pro users can enable auto-changing Unsplash photos as their background — choose a category (Nature, City, Space, Mountains, Ocean, Abstract, Dark, Minimal) and BTM loads a fresh high-quality photo every new tab or once daily. Requires an Unsplash API key (free).

When you right-click a bookmark and choose "AI Categorize", BTM sends the bookmark title and URL to Claude AI (by Anthropic) which suggests the most appropriate folder from your existing folders. It's fast, accurate and saves time when organizing large collections.

When you install BTM and open a new tab for the first time, a welcome screen appears with 3 options:

1. Load Default Template — starts with sample bookmarks across Home and Work spaces. Best for new users.
2. Import My Browser Bookmarks — reads your existing Chrome or Firefox bookmarks and imports them. Choose Auto-Categorize (sorts into Work, Tech, Travel, Shopping etc.) or Import All to Home (everything in one space).
3. Start Fresh — blank workspace, build from scratch.

You can also re-import anytime using Settings → Import (HTML or JSON).

Yes! Hover over any folder to reveal its action buttons, then click 📦 "Move to Space". A popup shows all your spaces with their folder counts. Select a destination space and the folder moves instantly. You can also create a new space directly from the Move to Space popup.

An undo toast appears immediately after any delete with a 5-second countdown. Click "↩ Undo" to restore the folder or bookmark with all its contents and metadata intact. After 5 seconds the delete is permanent.

Safari and Android Chrome are not supported. One Pro license works across all supported browsers.

Privacy Blur has two modes. All spaces, all folders keeps everything permanently blurred with no reveal — maximum protection. Hover to reveal (the default) blurs every folder automatically and only unblurs the one you're hovering your mouse over, re-blurring the moment you move away.

💡 Screen-sharing tip: Hover to reveal is perfect for calls and screen shares. Keep the links you'll actually need at the start of any space, in the first 1–2 folders. Once you're sharing your screen, hover over just those folders to reveal and open them — every other folder stays blurred, so nothing else is ever exposed to viewers. Switch modes anytime in Settings → Notifications & Privacy.

Go to Settings → Import & Backup → ☁️ Backup to Google Drive and sign in with your Google account when prompted (first time only). Each click pushes a fresh backup into a "Bookmark Tab Manager Backups" folder in your own Drive, organized by date and browser (Chrome and Firefox stay separate). Free plans get a JSON + HTML file each time; Pro also gets a Markdown file. Free plans get 1 Drive backup per month — Pro gets unlimited backups while your plan is active (a lapsed Monthly/Yearly plan drops back to the 1/month free allowance until renewed). It's a manual, on-demand snapshot — you can also turn on an Auto-backup reminder (Weekly/Fortnightly/Monthly) that gently nudges you if you haven't backed up in a while. This uses Google's narrowest Drive permission (drive.file) — BTM can only see the files/folders it creates itself, never the rest of your Drive.

They restore different amounts. ⬆ Restore JSON (Settings → Import & Backup, or 📄 Restore JSON backup on the reset/setup screen) is a full, exact restore — all your Spaces, folders, bookmarks, tags, colored dividers (Bookmark Groups), and app settings/preferences come back exactly as they were when that JSON was backed up. 📄 Restore HTML backup (or 📄 Import Bookmarks HTML in Settings) only restores bookmarks and folder names/nesting — a limitation of the standard browser bookmark HTML format itself, which has no way to store anything BTM-specific: tags, colored dividers, per-space backgrounds/emoji/locks, and settings/preferences all get left out, and it always lands as a single new "Chrome Import" space with just the links. For a true full backup that can't lose anything, always use JSON — treat HTML as a plain, universal bookmarks file for moving links into another browser, not as a BTM backup.

They solve two different problems and work fine together. ☁️ Google Drive Backup makes a snapshot file and uploads it to your own Google Drive — think of it as a save file, great for moving to a new device or recovering from a mistake. It only happens when you click the button. 🔗 Chrome Bookmarks Sync is a live, two-way mirror between BTM and Chrome's own native Bookmarks on the same device — it notifies you when you add a bookmark directly in Chrome, and can optionally mirror your BTM Spaces into Chrome's own Bookmarks Manager. It has nothing to do with Google Drive or the cloud, and Firefox has no equivalent native-mirror feature.

🧮 Math & unit conversion (on by default): click the search bar and type a plain math expression like 12*7+3, or a conversion like 10 km to miles, 100 f to c, or 5 kg in lbs — the answer appears as a highlighted row at the top of the search dropdown as you type. Click it to copy the result. This works fully offline, no internet connection needed. Turn it off in Settings → 🛠 Tools if you'd rather the search box only ever search your bookmarks.

💱 Currency conversion (off by default): type something like 100 usd to inr the same way — it briefly shows "Converting…" while it looks up the live rate, then the converted amount (click to copy). This needs a network connection since it calls a free exchange-rate API, which is why it's off until you turn it on in Settings → 🛠 Tools → "Currency conversion (uses network)". Supported currencies mirror what our provider (Frankfurter, using European Central Bank reference rates) publishes — a few currencies some people expect, like AED or SAR, aren't part of that data set.

Neither feature ever searches, reads, or sends your actual bookmarks — they only look at what you type into the search box.
