Is Bookmark Tab Manager really free?
Yes — the free plan is free forever with no time limit. Available on both Chrome and Firefox. You get unlimited spaces, folders, bookmarks, import/export, live clock, weather, dark/light themes, tags, privacy mode, broken link checker and more. No credit card required.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free gives you all the core bookmark management features. Pro unlocks visual customization (50 gradient themes, video backgrounds, Unsplash photos, particles), productivity tools (AI categorize, heatmap, streak, weekly report), child lock with PIN, ambient sounds, dual timezone clock, unlimited incognito, export as Markdown and more.
How many devices can I use Pro on?
Monthly and Yearly plans allow activation on up to 3 devices. Lifetime plan allows unlimited activations. One license works on both Chrome and Firefox — enter the same key in both browsers. To switch to a new device, go to Settings → About → Manage Devices → deactivate an old device first.
How do I get my Pro license after payment?
Immediately after payment via Razorpay, our system automatically generates a unique license key (BTM-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) and emails it to the address you entered. Open a new tab in Chrome or Firefox → click the 🔒 Free badge → enter your key → Activate.
Can I try Pro before buying?
Yes! Click the 🔒 Free badge on any new tab in Chrome or Firefox → "Try Pro Free for 1 Hour". All Pro features unlock immediately for 60 minutes with no payment required.
Is my data private? Where is it stored?
All your bookmarks, settings and preferences are stored locally in your browser's storage (Chrome or Firefox) on your device. Nothing is sent to any server. Your data never leaves your browser. Only license key validation communicates with our server (Supabase).
Does it work in incognito mode?
Neither Chrome nor Firefox allow extensions to override the new tab page in private/incognito mode by default — this is a browser security policy, not specific to BTM. However, you can still open any bookmark in a private window using the right-click menu → "Open in Incognito". This works without any extra settings.
Will it replace my existing bookmarks?
No. BTM works alongside your browser's native bookmarks on both Chrome and Firefox. You can import your existing bookmarks into BTM with one click, but originals remain untouched. You can also export BTM bookmarks back to standard HTML format anytime.
What payment methods are supported?
We use Razorpay — India's leading payment gateway. Accepted: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM), all Debit/Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay), Net Banking and more. Payments are in INR (₹).
Can I get a refund?
We offer a 1-hour free trial so you can test all Pro features before buying. Due to the digital nature of license keys, we generally do not offer refunds after activation. If you have an issue, reach out via our Telegram community — we'll make it right.
What is the Unsplash background feature?
Pro users can enable auto-changing Unsplash photos as their background — choose a category (Nature, City, Space, Mountains, Ocean, Abstract, Dark, Minimal) and BTM loads a fresh high-quality photo every new tab or once daily. Requires an Unsplash API key (free).
How does AI Auto-Categorize work?
When you right-click a bookmark and choose "AI Categorize", BTM sends the bookmark title and URL to Claude AI (by Anthropic) which suggests the most appropriate folder from your existing folders. It's fast, accurate and saves time when organizing large collections.
How do I set up BTM for the first time?
When you install BTM and open a new tab for the first time, a welcome screen appears with 3 options:
1. Load Default Template — starts with sample bookmarks across Home and Work spaces. Best for new users.
2. Import My Browser Bookmarks — reads your existing Chrome or Firefox bookmarks and imports them. Choose Auto-Categorize (sorts into Work, Tech, Travel, Shopping etc.) or Import All to Home (everything in one space).
3. Start Fresh — blank workspace, build from scratch.
You can also re-import anytime using Settings → Import (HTML or JSON).
How are my Chrome/Firefox sub-folders handled during import?
BTM preserves your sub-folder hierarchy during import using a clear naming format. For example, if you have a folder "Work" containing a sub-folder "Project A", it imports as two folders: "Work" (with direct bookmarks) and "Work / Project A" (with Project A's bookmarks). No bookmarks are lost — the hierarchy is visible through the folder names. True nested sub-folders inside BTM are planned for a future version.
Can I move a folder from one space to another?
Yes! Hover over any folder to reveal its action buttons, then click 📦 "Move to Space". A popup shows all your spaces with their folder counts. Select a destination space and the folder moves instantly. You can also create a new space directly from the Move to Space popup.
What happens if I accidentally delete a folder or bookmark?
An undo toast appears immediately after any delete with a 5-second countdown. Click "↩ Undo" to restore the folder or bookmark with all its contents and metadata intact. After 5 seconds the delete is permanent.

How does Privacy Blur work?
Privacy Blur has two modes. All spaces, all folders keeps everything permanently blurred with no reveal — maximum protection. Hover to reveal (the default) blurs every folder automatically and only unblurs the one you're hovering your mouse over, re-blurring the moment you move away.
💡 Screen-sharing tip: Hover to reveal is perfect for calls and screen shares. Keep the links you'll actually need at the start of any space, in the first 1–2 folders. Once you're sharing your screen, hover over just those folders to reveal and open them — every other folder stays blurred, so nothing else is ever exposed to viewers. Switch modes anytime in Settings → Notifications & Privacy.
